What does HubSpot’s Flywheel Product Team do? (And why it could be a great fit for you)

Written by Heather Harte | Jan 20, 2022

HubSpot is growing at a hyper-scale pace as we help millions of organizations grow better. Today, nearly 128,000 customers across more than 120 countries use HubSpot’s powerful and easy-to-use tools and integrations to attract, engage, and delight customers (up 34% from 2020). In fact, the HubSpot ecosystem is forecast to grow even faster than HubSpot as its revenue grows from $4.8 billion in 2020 to $12.5 billion in 2024. And like many companies, we need to add a significant amount of new talent to our team to fuel the future of our company.

How will HubSpot be able to achieve this massive growth?

The secret is in the
HubSpot Flywheel - a model adapted by HubSpot to explain the momentum you gain when you align your entire organization around delivering a remarkable customer experience.

Not only do we build products for our customers to gain momentum when aligning their organizations on a remarkable customer experience, we also apply the Flywheel model to our own business too.  It's so important, we have a whole Product team dedicated to how we apply the Flywheel model to our own business: the Flywheel Product Team.

What does the Flywheel Product Team do?

The Flywheel Product Team is responsible for spinning HubSpot’s enterprise Flywheel faster - HubSpot can’t afford to lose speed as we scale. We need to stay big and fast to reach our goals. The success of our team is defined by creating systems that enable HubSpot’s hyper-scale and break linear revenue growth. Our team builds for HubSpot’s front line reps, ops teams and partners, so they can perform their best work and continue to generate continuous value for customers at scale.

We’re at the epicenter of HubSpot’s growth, and support teams through bespoke Flywheel GTM systems and utilizing the full HubSpot product suite. The Flywheel Product Team also empowers our Ops teams to self-serve their evolving GTM strategies in systems that are connected and robust, not brittle.

Why join HubSpot’s Flywheel Product Team?

  1. You’ll solve unique and complex challenges by balancing business and user needs
HubSpot is your customer, and HubSpot Reps, Ops and Partners are your power users. You’re not only solving end user problems, but you’ll solve business problems too. Situated between our Flywheel business partners and the HubSpot product, you’ll also help align the capabilities of the HubSpot platform with the upmarket needs of the business. You’ll find root causes of user friction and address them with thoughtful, impactful, and scalable systems that empower your users to help HubSpot customers grow better.

  2. You’ll perfect your storytelling skills while gaining a seat at the table with some of HubSpot’s most senior leaders
Not only will you get the opportunity to build and execute a bulletproof product vision that will accelerate HubSpot into the next phase of growth, but you’ll also influence business process changes and go-to-market strategies that go hand in hand with the product outcomes you’ll be driving. Your job will be to find the sweet spot of empowering the HubSpot business to meet their objectives, while championing the needs of your internal HubSpot user.

The natural conflict that can occur at this intersection results in a dynamic, challenging and exciting role for you as the intermediary. To support you in this mission, you’ll learn stellar negotiation tactics from a team of peers and leaders in product who are best-in-class at owning their seat at the table. Whether it’s influencing the direction of the HubSpot Sales forecasting strategy, or helping to define how our support agents reduce resolution time for customers, you’ll get the chance to become a trusted advisor to the folks who make decisions about the future of the HubSpot business.

  3. You’ll gain direct and unlimited access to your users on-demand
Making user-centered product decisions requires a deep understanding of your customers’ needs, pain points and desires. A benefit of working in the Flywheel Product Team is that you’ll have no shortage of users at your fingertips. They are a Slack, Zoom or an email away - and if you’re in the office, you can grab lunch or a coffee. Since your users are also your colleagues, there is no red tape in the way of shadowing, interviewing and testing with them. HubSpot Reps, Ops and Partners are always eager to provide the feedback you need to build best-in-class solutions.

  4. You’ll help evolve the HubSpot product to meet the needs of upmarket customers
Positioned in the Flywheel Product Team, you will be an expert in building products and features that solve the complex needs of HubSpot. And guess what? HubSpot upmarket customers and prospects also face similar challenges. If you can solve for HubSpot, you solve for them too.

A big bet for the Flywheel Product Team in 2022 is to build a best-in-class front office solution that can solve the needs of upmarket customers. Realizing this goal for our customers will require increased customization and extensibility of our CRM, something that the Flywheel Product Team will become the first “customer” of as we run more of the HubSpot organization on HubSpot products. Armed with this expertise, you’ll help to scale core HubSpot products with features that enhance the upmarket customer experience.

  5. You’ll prioritize both service design and product design
In our world, product design and service design co-exist without hard boundaries: we define back office capabilities that will enable a great front-end customer experience. ‘Discovery’ takes on a whole new meaning in the Flywheel Product Team because we work in highly complex problem spaces with many end users, customers and stakeholders involved. For example, you may conduct an exercise to map the HubSpot customer journey through the lens of the reps they work with everyday before designing the ideal current state and solving problems in product and process.
