Studying Computer Science teaches you tonnes about the world of programming, but you don't always have the chance to build something real between classes, clubs, societies, and your busy life. So how can you get a living, breathing project on your CV? How can you ship something that will set you apart in the interview process for your first job or internship?

You can spend Tuesday, the 20th of November building your first web app, that's how! After the success of previous events organized in HubSpot's Dublin headquarters, where over 150 students shipped their first web app, we've decided to host another workshop! This will take place on the 20th of November, from 13:30 to 19:00 at our Dublin office (directions below) for women studying Computer Science*.

HubSpot is a place where you can grow your career, your interests, your creativity, and more. However you identify, please feel free to join us.

AGENDA

1:30PM - 2:00PM: Arrive & Check-In
Register, grab some swag and get ready for the afternoon workshop.

2:00PM - 2:05PM: Welcome & Intro
Learn the background and mission of the day’s programming workshop, from HubSpot’s Director of Engineering.

2:05PM - 2:30PM: Theory introduction
Introduction to what we'll be covering in the workshop for the afternoon.
Hand out some vocabulary cheat sheets to help with all those pesky acronyms.
Make sure our laptops are set up and ready to go to begin the workshop.

2:30PM - 3:00PM: All about the Base
Get up and running with the Base Web App. At this stage, you will be able to run a web app locally and also deploy it to Heroku.

3:00PM - 3:20PM: Break
Grab some drinks, snacks and mingle!

3:20PM - 5:20PM: Workshop time!
We have both an entry level and more experienced groups available.

5:20PM - 6:30PM: Q&A and Networking
There will also be optional CV help available from HubSpot's recruiting team. We'll show you where to find the team if you'd like any advice on what they look for in a job application or learn some job seeking hacks.

Where do I get my ticket from?
Places are limited, so please register(using above form) as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Who will benefit most from this event?

This event is designed for women who are undergraduate computer science students interested in adding a first side project to their CV to assist in finding internships or graduate positions. The content of the workshop is particularly useful for the students earlier on in their studies, who don't have much experience with building web applications.

Do I need to attend for the full day?
Yes. If you sign up, please plan to be at the event from 1:30PM to 6:30PM. (Of course, we understand if you cannot stay all afternoon, but there are valuable sessions throughout the day we'd hate for you to miss!)

Do I have to submit my CV?
No. But, if you'd like to get personalized feedback and suggestions for how to improve your CV, please email it to Stephanie Byrne at sbyrne@hubspot.com when you sign up.

What should I bring with me?
All you really need is a laptop and a power source however feel free to bring a CV if you'd like to review it with a member of our recruiting team.

I've attended the workshop before. Can I attend again?
Yes, you are more than welcome! Keep in mind though, if you did attend our last workshop that the content will be the same - we thought you might want to know.

The idea of this workshop came from Zoe Sobin, who invented and led the very first AppDev workshop in Cambridge. This was a great success and so we decided to organize a similar event in Dublin. This will be the 4th time we are running the workshop. Our team consists of engineers from different backgrounds and educations, but we all know that building your first application and and preparing the coding portfolio is a challenging task.
